Looking for feedback

When I made the first step for Easy Street they were supposed to be in grey and white/blacks with more white than black.  Since I had very few white/blacks I decided to use a yellow/orange instead as I had lots of it in my stash.

Then in step two Bonnie announced that we wouldn’t be using any more grey in the quilt.  Well I had a huge piece of grey – four metres to start with – and probably about two metres all together of the yellow oranges so I thought I would just continue with the grey as a substitute for the white/blacks in the quilt.  I e-mailed Bonnie and asked her if she thought that would work and she said yes.

Then we got to step six where she wanted us to cut two white/black blocks and sew them together.  I started thinking that if I used my grey for that block the quilt would be too dark.  So I got the bright idea of finding some lighter greys to use for those blocks and for one other small block that adjoins the grey and purple flying geese.

So today I have one of each block laid out, once using the lighter greys in those two spots above and once using the original dark grey.

light greys in the eight two-patch squares in the left hand block and in the four flying goose and grey squares in the right had block.  All other grey using the dark grey.

What do you think?  I kind of think it is a no-brainer now that I see it, but I’d like your opinion.  These blocks are not sewn together so it isn’t a huge deal to go either way.

  1. I would go with the dark gray myself. the lighter one shows up nicely, but the dark ties in with the rest of the piece.

  2. I think you're so clever to make colour substitutions when the quilt layout is a total mystery!

  3. I prefer the lighter gray. The dark overpowers the Irish chain the four patch units are forming.

  4. Photo #1, the colours work so well together, in the darker grey, it does not look so clear, and in #1, the greens really "zing" with their shades. Just IMHO. ( in my humble opinion). Cheers from Jean.

  5. Don't you love when you ask for opinions and the opinions are all different? LOL.....when I first looked I liked the lighter grey better but then I look at the dark grey and it actually forms it's own pattern that way so...jees.........now Im not so sure....haha....All I can say is whichever you decide on will be lovely in it's own way.......BTW, I have seen the "easy Street" blocks on other blogs, as well, and they don't look that easy...haha....

  6. I like your grey and yellow four patches in the quilt layout! Maybe I'd choose a cooler shade of yellow to go with the greens, but your blocks have turned out beautiful!

  8. Hi! I would use the light and med grey for the white and and light grey Bonnie used for the 4 patch squares, perhaps the light grey with the yellow and the med grey in the right hand block! I think they look great! I also thought the light grey was actually a mauve, which would look great with the lime green!
    Take care, Leslie

  9. I'm sure when you get those blocks all together, they will look fine. I would do whatever is easiest, after all, you have already headed off on your own!

  11. I like the mixed up grays, it gives it more movement and adds more character to it.

  12. All are beautiful in their own way...but I tend to like the middle version best. Enjoy your final decision and I look forward to seeing it as will the rest of your fans.
