At this time of year in the Yukon it is dark and cold. Now I actually like cold weather - it is crisp and clean and healthy feeling, but it sure sucks the energy out of you. After a lot of -5 C to - 15 C our weather finally plunged to normal levels of cold for January so it is -15 C to -30 C now. The cold makes everything very beautiful too, with ice fog and hoar frost and sun dogs - or even moon dogs - featuring prominently along with the Aurora Borealis. Here is what I get to look at when driving home from work at 3:30 p.m.
These pretty pictures are leading up to my excuse for not getting much done last night at Friday Night With Friends. I was just tuckered out what with the cold weather and working all week. I managed to finish putting a second round of hexies on one of my flowers for my Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt. And I basted a bunch of green hexies for the next garden path.
A productive night despite my lack of energy. I'm off to check out what the rest of the friends got up to.

And here is how beautiful the trees look with a hoar frost coating.

:) love your frosty trees :) visiting from FNWF :)
ReplyDeleteI love hearing about your part of the world. I cannot even imagine what -30 feels like! At least you joined in and did some FNWFs sewing. I did not join in as we had family staying for a few days-- at least that is my excuse.
ReplyDeleteFrosty weather, I too cannot imagine that coldness!!! Lovely sewing.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteOMG, that sounds really cold. I'll have to figure out how to transfer those Celcius temperature to Farenheit so I can appreciate how cold it really is. I like how your GFG is coming along. I get bored sewing the stepping stones on my flowers. Can't wait to see your finished quilt.
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous photos of the Hoar Frost on the trees...
ReplyDeleteYou did well getting anything done after a busy cold working week...
Oh so cold but beautiful for us who don't live there. Very pretty
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photo of the hoar frost. Here we are sweating it out in the heat. Nice work after a busy working week. It must take its toll getting out and about in such cold weather.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures Janet. Hexies are always easy and soothing when you are tired. xx
ReplyDeleteOooh....so pretty, but feels cold just looking at it! When I'm cold, it's all I can do to lift the blanket off my hands to change the channel on the TV with the remote LOL!

ReplyDeleteLove hexies...you made some nice progress with yours.
I'm a slow stitcher so to me you got a goof amount done. Your hexie flower is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteoh that's super cold! It's been unseasonably mild in the UK for the last 6 weeks or so. So much so we've got spring flowers out already! The down side is lots of rain and serious flooding in some areas.
ReplyDeleteI am with you Janet...I love the winter...you captured your area perfectly....and hexies well what can I say...habit forming to a T
