My hubby went hunting for the weekend, along with son-in-law, nephew and DD # 3’s boyfriend. DD # 1 was working nights all weekend, so DD # 3 and I took care of the grandkids. DD # 3 slept over along with her two dogs and D and E were there as well.
9:00 a.m. The dogs want out and about for a morning romp.
10:00 a.m. The kids are up and having breakfast. Two bowls of cereal each.
11:00 a.m. I saw a peach pie on someone’s blog last week. I can’t remember who it was and I was just trying to find it and Google Reader disappeared. Hopefully it will return or maybe someone can tell me where I saw the peach pie. I just had to emulate it! We seldom get good tasting peaches here, but these were on sale for 76 cents/kg. They weren’t ripe but the price was right to buy them and see if they ripened okay. I moved them from sunny spot to sunny spot for a few days and they did ripen nicely. Only one of them rotted. So it’s time for peach pie.
12:00 p.m. DD # 3 came prepared to make jam with four cartons of strawberries. This batch will be strawberry rhubarb. DGD is mashing the strawberries, while DGS studiously slices the rhubarb.
1:00 p.m. First batch of jam is going in the jars.
2:00 p.m. It’s been a productive time: peach pie, strawberry/rhubarb jam, strawberry jam and some apricot jam I made last weekend. Now the kids and I are off to the swimming pool.
3:00 p.m. Still swimming. You might think it is our own private pool, but it’s not. There were two other kids there.
4:00 p.m. The first swim is over – we’re going back for the evening swim later on. At home DD # 3 is making button jewellery for DGD’s birthday party next weekend. The kids had to help too.
5:00 p.m. We’ve had a bite to eat and it’s time to sample the pie! YUM!
6:00 p.m. We’re on our way back to the pool. DD # 3 has left for home and the rest of us are going swimming.
7:00 p.m. DGS put the snorkel gear on but never put his face in the water. Too funny
8:00 p.m. Yes we’re still at the pool. DGD and the one other boy who was there swimming are telling jokes with the lifeguard. She was trying to tell them “anti-jokes”. Eg. You say to me “knock knock”. I don’t reply at all. That’s an anti-joke. It’s apparently funny because it is such a surprise. The kids didn’t get it either….
9:00 p.m. We’re home from the pool and the kids (and me) are starving. DH is home and he’s going to make us grilled cheese.
10:00 p.m. DD # 1 finished her shift at 8 p.m. and she has finally arrived to pick up the kids (one hour drive and she probably went home first). I am definitely going to bed as soon as they leave. It’s been a fun day but I’m pooped.
