It’s Canada Day! I promised a giveaway….

Well here it is Canada Day. I’ve been blogging for one year.  I did promise a giveaway and it will be today.  First you have to see some pics from our fun Canada Day parade…

Above is DD # 1 and pseudo daughter #1 with her nephew.  A bunch of the girls who grew up in town and used to love Canada Day here came out with their kids to join in the fun.  After the parade, food, singing Oh Canada and eating cake, there were games for the little kids and then we got into the serious competition: spike pounding and swede sawing logs.

Here are the grandchildren – they wouldn’t participate in the kiddie games but they did in the “bush” ones.

Hammering that spike….okay they gave him a really little spike ….

Big sister getting some pointers prior to trying the log sawing herself…

IMG_3725

DD # 3 and her boyfriend joined the fun as well…. with a real log and real swede saw…

Happy Canada Day to Canadian friends and Happy 4th of July to those south of the border!

I decided to give away two sets of two fat quarters each.  These fabrics were purchased in the US so these are American fat quarters.  First I have a set of two themed fabrics, for those who like a little summertime fun.  Campers and deer….

IMG_3728

And I decided to part with two fat quarters of my Sherbet Pips…after I ordered some more from the Intrepid Thread…

So, two sets of two fat quarters each for two winners.  From anywhere in the world.  The draw will close next Thursday, the 7th at 9 p.m. my time.  I’m almost at the end of the international date line. The postal strike is over – I will be able to mail.

Two chances to win:

1. Leave me a comment telling me about the most interesting aspect of your day today.  Don’t say it was all boring – everyone has interesting experiences to tell about.  You can mention which set of fat quarters you like best too.

2. If you are a follower you get a second chance.

Here’s the most interesting thing from my day.  I participated in the serious games.  I’m not much use with a hammer but I do have a history of living in the bush and sawing wood to keep warm.  I’m proud to say I was able to saw the log (the big one) in 36 seconds and in good form.  I didn’t win.  A woman from town sawed the log in 20 seconds and my two daughters did it in 22 seconds and 28 seconds.  But still, 36 seconds is not bad for an aging grandma.

  1. Happy Canada Day to you! I think it would take me 36 MINUTES to saw a log. heh!

The highlight of today was picking my quilt up from my longarmer's!! She did such a terrific job and I can't WAIT to get it bound and put the embellishments on it. (Well, I have to wait, because I have to finish this baby quilt first.) ;D

  2. And I'm a follower. (p.s. I heard the strike was over, but wanted to wait a few days before sending your June Swap Adventure block package to give them a chance to untangle the backlog a bit - I will take it to the P.O. on Tuesday morning first thing after the holiday break.)

  6. The most interesting part of today for me is yet to come. I am going to my father's (next door) to watch the Wimbledon Women's Finals on his new 3D TV.

  7. Happy Canada Day! It looks like the woman in the second picture is wearing a down jacket. Today I de-dog haired the whole house .. an exercise in futility but is nice for a bit. and I do love that doggy print. Am I a follower? Well, I follow the slow pokes and we are both slow pokes. Hmmmm

  8. I especially love the Pips FQs. Well, my day had an interesting start, but not in a good way. About 5 am I'm lying in bed half awake and I hear a huge crash. Jumped up to see what happened and found that the heavy glass dome from the light in my foyer had gone crashing to the floor. No one was near it to have caused it to fall, which is a good thing since there were chunks and shards of glass everywhere. Talk about an abrupt awakening!

  12. HAPPY CANADA DAY weekend... cuz we like to stretch it out as long as possible, right?!! Looks like your family had a lot of fun and I love the pic of the kids in their bicycle parade led by the Mounties! Awesome!
The most exciting part of my day was sharing fireworks with my kids for the very first time ever! It's always amazing what a thrill those fireworks can bring, and I love the oooh and aaaah-ing of the crowd!
Thanks for the chance to win, I have the campers (in fact, I have several FQs of them as I keep loving them and forgetting I already bought them!) but would love to see those Sherbet Pips in real life!

Am trying to remember which province you live in, that looks BC-ish, but I know we aren't the only province with Caribou crossing hither and yon over the highways!
Would love to see Sherbet Pips in real if I won your great giveaway! Thanks for the chance!

    HAPPY CANADA DAY weekend!

  17. I can't choose between the fat quarters. I LOVE the campers and I love the dogs. The best part of my day today was that I gave my preschooler a pickle loaf sandwich for lunch. I think he was expecting chicken. He has had some delays in life and doesn't speak clearly. When I handed him the sandwich he said, "THANK You, MOM!" He said it like he was opening Christmas presents. Soooo rewarding to be his mom.

  18. My favorite set is the Sherbet Pips, though I like both! Best part of my day so far was laying out a new quilt and sewing it almost completely together!

Happy Canada Day. I love the Mounties in their uniform, such a handsome uniform. The mountains in the pics of the grandies are just spectacular.
Today I am off to see a John Denver tribute show with some friends. I am hoping it is wonderful.
(I love the sherbet pips fabric, it is very sweet)

  21. Thanks for the chance to win.. I adore the Sherbet Pips!!!! Well, the best part of my day today is that I completed a block for Partnership Quilts for 2012 Tokyo Quilt Festival (http://ayumills.blogspot.com/2011/06/partnership-quilts-for-2012-tokyo-quilt.html).. this is my first time to join this such a great event. 22. The most interesting part of my day was sitting on the porch with my mother, listening to the noises outside while shelling peas. We could speculate about what and where for the noises we heard -- and make up amusing stories.
    Sherbet Pips.
Thanks for the giveaway. Happy Canada Day!

  23. Hey Janet--I do NOT want to win anything, but wanted to say I saw you yesterday when the parade was just getting started. I decided (last minute) to go to Skagway and knew you were with family. The pics are awesome--grandkids are so very cute. At least a 1000 people in Skagway-yuck.

I have never seen the camper fabric before-its my fav.

Enjoy the rest of your long weekend. :-)

  24. Happy Canada Day! I'm a follower and I think you have a darling blog. Please just give yourself a little more credit. Blogs aren't about how many followers or how many giveaways; how fast you sew or how you have every project lined up for the next 50 years. It's about your journey. And you're already miles ahead of most of us. I'll take your beginner blog over an old fuddy duddy high brow quilter any day! All the best.

  25. The most exciting part of my day is yet to come. Out July 4th weekend is here and we'll have fireworks later. Before that we'll have a picnic dinner and a little family time. Really looking forward to it.

  28. Hello!
the most interesting (or not boring at all) fact of my day today... when I arrived home from work I found that one of our 4 hens was not well :-(... she's been hurt and she's limping. So we're trying to see if she recovers soon. there you go, something different, I'd say!

  29. Happy Canada Day! I hope you didn't have "saw" arms the next day(sorry but I just had to get that pun in there!).
The best thing I have done is to finish sewing and trimming 96 square-in-a-square blocks - now I have to sew them into pairs as they will be for the inner border of the quilt I'm currently working on - onwards and upwards...
