Here is some of my progress.</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh88BFC2VEzA5pKm2_lzuEeH05B_yyEDrsK7H0kJhtRUowFoJIUaN6ZU0Nb1od5cABGJx3WiKKgIKHRRSLd6KLb8JUMLA_n7oervMhMyRPlQCdMMQLfjDNW7Ldrz0BU-i9q_PADJaTPNieT/s1600-h/006%255B4%255D"><img width="644" height="484" title="006" style="display: inline; background-image: none;" alt="006" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUiGL6bWfd-S_IHGQEKeCdpHfTWlyLK_YwZ6I-qNEMZX2AyB1t9ihXAoL79G7Lvp__B7p_epYcYOxX83J2psqM-z_8e3o0dKILCO__a1WJtLDYGGBgRSEcavRhn18mkBHDDBjIwRfhJ_ER/?imgmax=800" border="0"></a></p><p>Detail around the cats in the sun.</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM2MXD3emTBmKuA9nV7pSxT6Yq-yuTGhHXeYF70C9KyfZrlZoKrGs3ytNJSVay_uWTUK8OCV-8hP_fCk8_7WwFmJLC5z08fpyhNM5m9mI24BvM2j-Q3BCZVbXl2Yi6s5y91JyNfxLQ6n3n/s1600-h/007%255B4%255D"><img width="644" height="484" title="007" style="display: inline; background-image: none;" alt="007" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2ZN6LUTt-8FYzIspOeRlO7_4D9ubi6jX1YB6lxfU7uByXvekxUXxqn3r1i8nBgl3JGOjJOzuwsR-Y_UEgUFHxTcWaDI8iNLZbLuVEdFFKVHz_CE9VOGKBrWF4NQkp8JiaDcFrFILezqke/?imgmax=800" border="0"></a></p><p>The title of the first panel.</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3KdioD3S4H6qv0u4QCNUtKHg4_y2ycwaTKLv_ghyphenhypheniN1or1pMyDz8ETdoDMQFtUNS1KkBGT11FiunvHLcHy6Ss0agDkeNF00j2IG_QdIHuwjJqC492NGfjpIO1PIGV0OUac6WfWS6MsxdW/s1600-h/008%255B4%255D"><img width="644" height="484" title="008" style="display: inline; background-image: none;" alt="008" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-_G0VnlOsWiob1dKDj20YCOWLaQ2711nNqY-k_LsLVpWYcV6y74G4Mnhs6jUDY9fsAflEWdty5omOKvbLXsLWkVdRTDiuuB8Mqqx7UnppVT3pCnVCuopJVD_1dcMwIWII413excxcogOQ/?imgmax=800" border="0"></a></p><p>And some straight line quilting border work on the cats in the window panel.</p><p>It seems that I didn’t plan enough time for finishing it though as I keep on being too busy and I am worried that I won’t get it done in time. Oh well, all I can do is try and if it doesn’t get done for this visit it will be done for the next one!</p><p>I did manage to get a few other things finished this week. On Wednesday I went to a Bernina class at my LQS. Ruth holds these classes once a month (except in summer – noone would come then). We make a little project and learn about how to use some particular foot or feet or settings on the machine. I attended these classes when I first bought my machine and learned tons but I feel like I have lots more to learn. This class we made a wall hanging. </p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWrhe-5EY_7MUVyI7sjaeAQJ19i5WaeIOO8Vh12lH4M2KO9ZFVDox46aTHmlHtXsO7VDzkGKA80ZmPM1Q6dzNzBeRVXwHxwLoXF42_M47gDgBTQu6Dp2zm-thEJ7hJa5YSHqM-OtLHCjbT/s1600-h/002%255B4%255D"><img width="364" height="484" title="002" style="display: inline; background-image: none;" alt="002" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9huKUPDUZs4MAK5DUr7RgNvUfHRhEYMCzzHl5SYgt0zrVziBC7VlHO8IOXYWf6gnOsri33OWcSOqtADPU9zU5xJpG8fDqinVxIjOHGf7KuAhdR8fdSfsgDwV52jhcK78jUvZc2vhVRxtw/?imgmax=800" border="0"></a></p><p>I learned how to do machine sewn binding the right way – it turns out that the way I was doing it on the placemats I made at Christmas was my own invention, although it worked okay. And I learned a different way to do a diagonal join on the binding. I did manage some sewing for <a href="http://www.sugarlane-designs.com/2018/01/fnsi-sign-ups-for-january.html">Friday Night Sew In</a> which, as usual, was hosted by lovely Wendy who blogs at <a href="http://www.sugarlane-designs.com/">Sugarlane Designs</a>.</p><p>At the end of February I am having some company come to visit. First my cousin Dawn is coming from Edmonton for three days. I am sure she will regret not making her trip longer, especially because my sister and brother-in-law arrive from Australia on the afternoon of the day she leaves at 6 a.m. At the same time my niece Brianna will be visiting her family (mom and dad, brother, his wife and a niece and nephew) in Whitehorse. </p><p>A long time ago – actually 2010 – I started <a href="http://cariboucrossingchronicles.blogspot.ca/2010/07/three-cat-stories.html">this quilt</a>. I started this blog because of this quilt. I also decided a long time ago that this quilt will be for my niece Brianna. The flimsy has been made for years and I even started quilting it a few years ago. Well it is time to get it done! I have a month to finish it – even slowpoke me should be able to accomplish that. </p><p>So over this weekend I did some quilting on the first of the three panels. This panel is called “Cats in the Sun” so I worked on the rays of sunshine. </p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPydb44OZjl0UsKv4RKZ9qopJDKj4FToUd7-MWu21PPIeJVUWXo-Jwha8QMyNL2YJd9QtiLoA7TSh00JUc2_yLixOwTufmvP8wfTCD8q7c8wW9aNvko4qqROkdve9TYZ4pZoG5dhZR81bQ/s1600-h/008%255B4%255D"><img width="644" height="484" title="008" style="display: inline; background-image: none;" alt="008" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6heWXMy71u_nwS0FZ4BmL7nT6Kk4xEdsEOOR38DYA_BPJJRe4tAmcD31doR3dmT2KRQl_RZg6yECP4PyeS3l2o5WJq5mJ-io5YFbwqpc-rY7R0ZB9T1few8Xj6gBstpqV1JniYsTlOIrd/?imgmax=800" border="0"></a></p><p>And then I put flowers in the garden.</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGsyzERkX7Y5b42w2EWw4xiLqnQVnNHmHJELsAffX96vtoZkP0bg1BOqRhv88eF3vztD3b2SrA03lSAaEX5LizN_5DFIrN98_o4Igcjt7627QNmgP0Ngc4-0HvA-1RvXMqVwAtbJp6z4-u/s1600-h/010%255B4%255D"><img width="644" height="484" title="010" style="display: inline; background-image: none;" alt="010" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOa3MIS1GiD0rLveWICSZcnRg2jQ3j7RI67MsxQe32xyFZA53WMc4Q_KaVWe5mJaVFNgUVsbDTS9qGRlFpcUq9fruXriYKeDQnn59C_j3u4zIH7ZOY4PSKCLdL7uyB2PjDVIELgd760JVJ/?imgmax=800" border="0"></a></p><p>The first panel is almost done and I had previously done the bulk of the quilting on the second panel, so I really am more than halfway done with the quilting. A couple of people asked me how to make the rugs I showed in my <a href="http://cariboucrossingchronicles.blogspot.ca/2018/01/friday-night-with-friends-january-2018.html">last post</a>. I haven’t made much progress since this photo, only about fourteen more rows.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipWJtrMiMiQvEjrn1W26f2vadaaiEWe000r8e-DUWuOFe6H6WTTBw8le87TYbQl3iXLeIPbn1DorMrFOWSwYXOK7e1m6cox0Sndu64TpA_32G_Anw28rPdgPelBrxg3-KmSqyU3NoslRXs/s1600-h/080%255B4%255D"><img alt="080" border="0" height="484" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFkWwPxiinD-KEE1of6y3U0DxzZ7NmP8HqUSPExQ472oSqfNNJmND8R2MCDUmo6Y_Witx8n7HGahvSJyYWOj3gw9hi8dBYfPex6sX3rMaE7oTD6ces4MlgOKN0-Q0JAoOWYk4t86q-h-l5/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; display: inline;" title="080" width="644" /></a><br />
Firstly I have to give credit to Amanda Jean at <a href="http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.ca/">Crazy Mom Quilts</a>. I first saw these rugs on her <a href="http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.ca/2012/03/crazy-mom-quilts-one-way-to-knit-rag.html">blog</a> post and was totally attracted to them. My method of making them is only slightly different from hers.<br />
She suggests using size 35 needles. I had no idea what this size is, although I just looked it up on a conversion chart and see US size 35 converts to 19mm in metric which is what we use in Canada. But at the time I just knew I needed big needles and I went with the biggest I could find, which are US size 15 or 10mm. It is interesting for me to realize now that I am using such smaller needles than she has used.<br />
Amanda Jean suggests fabric strips from 1/2 to 1 inch. I have used scraps that I collect from our local quilt shop which often include lots of fabric strings. For the first rug I used whatever size came along, but I found that some were very difficult to knit with because of the bulk. For the second rug I have cut down any that seemed too bulky to 1 1/8 inch. Many of the strips are narrower than that, but I don’t usually go smaller than about 1/2 inch, unless they are batiks or other “colour both sides” fabrics. Something that I do that she doesn’t mention is that any strips that are printed – ie the colour shows more on the “right” side of the fabric – I fold in half as I am knitting so the colour is showing on the outside. With any that are the same both sides, such as batiks, I don’t bother with this.<br />
The other thing that I do differently from her is that she ties her strips together. She doesn’t say what kind of knot she uses. I have been using a knot that I found somewhere on the web (that I cannot find again now – too bad, that woman had some beautiful rugs). I thought it was called a “blood knot” but I have just looked that up and found that it is a completely different knot. I found some instructions on the internet about how to make this knot, but they all suggest making up a “ball” of “yarn” to work with. I add pieces as I go, sometimes adding on several pieces at a time, and sometimes only one, depending on the length of the strip.<br />
Here is how you make this knot. <br />
Fold over the end of the strip that is coming from your knitting in progress.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD9zdt4RFhje03icvzQReIGslVzoQnOf-GM16LCDMhpao_M689KtiSiReRCyCoHhmD2bset4DyPlgmqk1s4sK35zR09MOmXzn4biZdjRAiha6hFzUoNXZeIXBvG5xi82XbwS9thuTcfACE/s1600-h/007%255B3%255D"><img alt="007" border="0" height="184" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6GrjkKeMyobyABkaeVJATB9zU3UJPv1TdvQ7YmgibSExahjgqsWGm_1HLGsUNca3KnwOF6vUauRZ-EtP9QwoE4mCiRikHRSm4-zCqQwBn92azomMZV5JbbhL9RJnw1YF0PPYkmrmZNCRh/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; display: inline;" title="007" width="244" /></a><br />
Cut a slit in the fabric. If you want your ends to be neater, cut this slit up to 1/4 inch away from the end of the fabric. I like the knobby knots for their texture and look so I am not very careful about my cuts and they are often 1/2 to 1 inch from the end.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKdIdulh-nbNsxoOUOjFSxLXFcLZSks8bzJ4UOzYcR4JO3YvLIBMGgRpOXC4B7wGpmJoXvCFlzhtCMUvicD9NBvRs1oH96B_PtMuaqaNd5TflR5w8sG7KJySluOrUjPX2FKlaypsM7wM49/s1600-h/009%255B3%255D"><img alt="009" border="0" height="184" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx8t-63w6IveXupnLrVl24sKsfC7iDVWVIZ5xWKFSYYH0_QQIS8QOCRlF9lpTZSOG94XEJChkE-YsSEPtCSno6uiHGiwA_6rNdXLo8FGJeR4_Ra92x4TkrgwbBh0T4OzdVqVqcScUlEzx1/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; display: inline;" title="009" width="244" /></a><br />
Do the same thing in one end of the strip that you want to join on.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp4xxlgLkwpw__muHEApq8Amrc8ndabwQ99YqxlpoutFeSyPNLBQNTWsf2rXaZnzAQsaq8lf2f-zycBc5_QKeZy7WzMsZ8qVr2C8-8JLIWHj3nYx3fODlX2R1SiwHGTgnCvMU9oN15xmrC/s1600-h/010%255B3%255D"><img alt="010" border="0" height="184" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeSDXt5CcGw4DiD9niWPeV2w5-3V5BXkul5Bk_1HLxPddmSR9zlw1n3X2lagFvBuZhh0Zrv1RAeqylUXHz97-d3R0x7CENOJWGDCJM34X-IosUqyKDaHsUGUsrN3befO6A_QdQkfTSqFp3/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; display: inline;" title="010" width="244" /></a><br />
Insert the end of the strip coming from your work in progress through the slit in the new fabric strip. It is important to insert the strip from your work first, as otherwise you’ll have a problem. Try it the other way and you’ll see…<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoj9m8-IFVbYUTjUm3k3yNq0yKCRiieq5zjQbXQqSZRHRiooyOVa3RXdnjqegkuCFAtkgVv4hgSaXoU0Vaq5LP4Mclkj6DCGtbcY2kR0l3cSaDKVWiNnMVCmM8ZwvDBbKU9z1a7G2EYI89/s1600-h/011%255B3%255D"><img alt="011" border="0" height="244" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPZXVHf-qaYDgJpYadUPQv8m6F58rOuJ8mqddL9BuWqLEW_mw6DCgi2V6WDdCAsHEQqaE_X6GafNj8M6PvK_mmuZNkb6S_PeAzjLpwV4sD7sDGbtgbjB3NqYhgGqqqIBLc6M_bA_Yn-4FO/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; display: inline;" title="011" width="184" /></a><br />
Now insert the end of the new strip through the slit in the old strip.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyTITNrY5nWDtwu9rp5Y3lQ4NDKZ4JPZnqLZx6FTPsGojA_lz8vHf6V8gwpL7SONKtHwmlz3KMAkYbAeH0Ts9KnAsPy3fGkwNX9YJ1st90wnjA9Xmi6udyfodpV1QF9DOoxRQTVAuGgaLe/s1600-h/012%255B3%255D"><img alt="012" border="0" height="184" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6nseNzxtmFc3RMmyfb6sSVVL4GuzTehumlERtVmyElsy_bTT4h_bvx2OrIatvVQStooRDzyKWnzMJAS6UH6aPbrf5jpDxM8V-mbyo1or7PwdgXhJx4JZ_OKm1eCiRgWx-rZBZwT3A0Pxv/?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; display: inline;" title="012" width="244" /></a><br />
Pull the two strips taut to make the knot.<br />

As you can see, my knot is going to be lumpy and bumpy, just like I want it. I am going to continue eroneously calling this a bloodknot because I think it fits.<br />
For the rugs that I made and am making, I cast on 50 stitches. That was all I could fit on the needles. The rugs are knit in garter stitch, that is using a knit stitch on every row. I used a simple cast off stitch and wove the long ends from the start and the finish through the knitted rows. My rugs 23 inches wide by 29 inches long, just the right size for by a bed or in front of the kitchen sink. They could easily be longer if one just kept knitting. To be wider one would have to have longer needles, or perhaps a circular needle. <br />
There are various instructions on the internet for making rugs from fabric strips, old sheets, old tshirts etc. This is the way I have done it. I hope you will let me know if you try my method. <img alt="Smile" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX2p1rK32hYAJxDSlmi3Y3F9i9a_znyYgByfPBJAys4I1toG_rJ1rPsI8qvvrgVEjrsE6ihyPCNccvT-GdCqjmXHIGLPioUOcmudjSa1JwfbsgHRV5aH1l41f-qj87AcWD56gldhuhZUAJ/?imgmax=800" /> I have a friend who has old wool blankets from her family’s farm who has asked if I could make a rug for her using them. I am excited to try another medium. And one day I will try using tshirts. I think they would be softer to knit with. <br />

It has been a while since I last posted. I retired mid November and life has been a whirlwind since then. A visit from DD#2 who lives in Newfoundland the last two weeks of November, renovations to my bedroom and another bedroom ongoing since early November, my brother and his wife visiting from Seattle over Christmas and sixteen people here for Christmas dinner. This along with all the other miscellaneous things that have needed to be done for years that I am finally getting to. </p><p>We have had lots of snow, then a big thaw and lots of ice but we are finally back to lots of snow after a big blizzard a few days ago. Skiing and yoga and sewing take up a lot of my time. Yes, I said sewing! I did a lot of sewing for Christmas – six placemats, two bottle bags and seven hotmats. I have photos of the placemats…. missed out on the other items.</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2lue-hHN6j5BkXO6dpLPeI2Vo0VBZNcrIL7HrsRraB-sSfXcbdPXM-xR6Velpp1LlFMkTABm5MzsVEhyphenhyphenziLuzR3ZfrgC64w3toQUKhRokZCtl4NNrO2wRsATvy8D3IxkWPlqQuqjnUDnR/s1600-h/040%255B4%255D"><img width="644" height="484" title="040" style="display: inline; background-image: none;" alt="040" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVQiWTWsn1y7SJQAgu2BCtnusOLWVLrR71d8OldnmL6Mkasb23rZ0rE739mH3-syDv8BH_vhsGiO4003KYXF0Np26JuZ8F2U90tV__KH3Cxu7iZyrjaSABKeYbWIlEtJtePN6sksBoJ-Tb/?imgmax=800" border="0"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2D86Xr5mIp_4K-XXtjYNCRUGUel1BI2M6lflXAxNNvRFDMsb52yfQovciUFj9K3W-xFy2j7LZdWujNJHZRyyonVcpYZkGOOzSkJY7L38qhXfm3D2XC76s2CGFv1tX1fwx4c4O_v9lKBSB/s1600-h/041%255B4%255D"><img width="644" height="484" title="041" style="display: inline; background-image: none;" alt="041" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrwJtIXQwDQ54Y6_Xu-sbVHJ7IPhLRjVDgVEI67xuXR48oRi7ICM3zGjSHZFlVXxZwDNYbVLGgeBZ-CYJEpH8tuMbg6WhIxyXRuMvRGnVOHFcCn4-g47we1NNUF4TD2ymwyaByJZ_1mTcr/?imgmax=800" border="0"></a></p><p>These two were for my daughter and s-i-l in Newfoundland, a salmon, which he loves to fish for, and a whale that she sees often when she is out walking on the coastal trail.</p><p>The other four were for my other two daughters and their partners. This month I didn't actually do any sewing on Friday night. That is because there was a quilt show in Whitehorse and a quilt show around here just cannot be missed as they come up once a year at the most. I love quilt shows. I love seeing what other quilters have done, I love getting to chat with the people who made the quilts, as one does in a small town like Whitehorse, and I love the ideas that I come away with. <br />
<br />
This quilt show is nothing like the big shows that so many of you get to go to, and I am sure they are spectacular. One day I will get to one of those. This one was put on by a local guild. It has thirty members. They are all dedicated quilters and one of them, Joanne, is a fantastic quilter who has won prizes in national shows. We all got to vote on best small quilt, large quilt, Canada 150 quilt and favourite overall quilt. All blindly of course - meaning the names of the makers weren't advertised. Although, some of them had labels and you could touch them. <br />
<br />
Joanne won three of the categories, go figure, but there were many lovely quilts. The show was in a church basement. It was crowded and the quilts were hung on ropes strung here and there or laid on tables. It wasn't easy to get good photos.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGlNF6-pUiPNldNhU4KNdh8oE9GKAwE8NuJwjHaJ2GgY3UhvLzOuVE5BGPvLv6DefSoj66tQimovetCb_2Ra0AAsokOKULtWSC9nZuKlFs80mYeBO-ZdibfVrJ9asqQ2G4DYZnbalbpB-f/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGlNF6-pUiPNldNhU4KNdh8oE9GKAwE8NuJwjHaJ2GgY3UhvLzOuVE5BGPvLv6DefSoj66tQimovetCb_2Ra0AAsokOKULtWSC9nZuKlFs80mYeBO-ZdibfVrJ9asqQ2G4DYZnbalbpB-f/s400/004.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But I did take a few. This was my favourite small quilt. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFfn2zsbUgqL8-cRRide7ru5JRhyphenhyphenA6RGYcivdkUmL7RB__ZjxeBQk9zycwVXhhSo5P4frErqqvn156f4Mfdxl5Xg8-92hNbbPIs4uzxFRhBqIIrD5lurmP-LpMcILo40sSTeQy6vevj37q/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFfn2zsbUgqL8-cRRide7ru5JRhyphenhyphenA6RGYcivdkUmL7RB__ZjxeBQk9zycwVXhhSo5P4frErqqvn156f4Mfdxl5Xg8-92hNbbPIs4uzxFRhBqIIrD5lurmP-LpMcILo40sSTeQy6vevj37q/s640/008.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was about 16 x 20. I loved the use of the colour fabrics for the spots on the dog and the eyes were very expressive. I didn't find out who made it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the quilt that won for small quilt. One of Joanne's masterpieces and quite beautiful.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the quilt I voted for in the Canada 150 class. It was made by Cathy, who is Joanne's best friend.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I liked the simplicity of the pattern and of course the Canadian feeling it expressed.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This was the winning quilt, made by my friend Agnes. She said she cut all the pieces by hand. What a feat that would have been! It isn't that easy to see but the red batik is all maple leaves. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXNNNW0X6KGlDXOhqSH4MRNDOWPRZPlE9MNRZJ-rsAbQ4O3ixF-FV-2qbROQ-RoSIIpzwwQc3Gw0VBzr2QXVUqrdW1BCPlGt6sh5dJfmxUIO8aoOtrdEA45RrovPGeVVf0eDgJBAIJ6ySl/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXNNNW0X6KGlDXOhqSH4MRNDOWPRZPlE9MNRZJ-rsAbQ4O3ixF-FV-2qbROQ-RoSIIpzwwQc3Gw0VBzr2QXVUqrdW1BCPlGt6sh5dJfmxUIO8aoOtrdEA45RrovPGeVVf0eDgJBAIJ6ySl/s640/013.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is the quilt I voted for in the large quilt category. It was made by my friend Catherine. She and I met in French class which we have both been attending for a few years. I remember when she brought in photos of this quilt when she was making it last year. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxiWujIVhkOEuN3mAo293gUXwDffLAvfuPZgaynuXe29SqEnoJTL51thyphenhyphenBCg-vu1SpCP8XwH20biU39jdwCWx4d9giMZ2ghrfvrGWgt9WS6iJd2vXzfrqNSTvMiox8i2yvhdHvQKBPyldI/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxiWujIVhkOEuN3mAo293gUXwDffLAvfuPZgaynuXe29SqEnoJTL51thyphenhyphenBCg-vu1SpCP8XwH20biU39jdwCWx4d9giMZ2ghrfvrGWgt9WS6iJd2vXzfrqNSTvMiox8i2yvhdHvQKBPyldI/s640/011.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am, of course, a sucker for all that colour. She said she didn't like the way she had quilted it, but I liked it. It really accentuated the heart shape.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And this is the quilt I voted for as overall favourite. It was made by Susan. The pattern really appeals to me and the fabrics are appropriate for the pattern, although if I was to make it I would probably try to add more colour. But her hand quilting was superb! Unfortunately I didn't get a close-up of the hand quilting.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJnSku00wthif_tQnLXheW8aA8_42g1-BtnD2e_D5yHiYM2caISPfAUR1z4Wohu1Be0p_xQArSAO7CMCcsghhothgmohOh3TIYbJKr7boOGCgV-vVTVGon4VeLirvS4X6c832O2p9hDecN/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJnSku00wthif_tQnLXheW8aA8_42g1-BtnD2e_D5yHiYM2caISPfAUR1z4Wohu1Be0p_xQArSAO7CMCcsghhothgmohOh3TIYbJKr7boOGCgV-vVTVGon4VeLirvS4X6c832O2p9hDecN/s640/010.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is the quilt that won for best large quilt and overall favourite. Another of Joanne's and it is really stupendous. She is in a class of her own, in our town anyway.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCZ6fk60ZgETjV7tMQPogif5Y4RDGlCEdq5nn1jK2q3jEl9LZ1-oXprRrQ-k3_3Gfk1gEc6Hs0y18U0ZCjwbuRLcPiuACGskXHvcvfLtXx8y-ePYdCxUX4pMb9dxMXMvOh0eSu0dDiBSvy/s1600/016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCZ6fk60ZgETjV7tMQPogif5Y4RDGlCEdq5nn1jK2q3jEl9LZ1-oXprRrQ-k3_3Gfk1gEc6Hs0y18U0ZCjwbuRLcPiuACGskXHvcvfLtXx8y-ePYdCxUX4pMb9dxMXMvOh0eSu0dDiBSvy/s640/016.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She had detail on her label about how she had hand painted the applique fabrics following some instructor's method. Unfortunately in all the excitement I didn't put the information in the right file drawer in my brain and I can't find it now. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And here are two more photos of quilts that I particularly liked. Well there were lots more that I liked but these were the two I took photos of. I don't know who made either of them. First up, you know I am a fan of hexie quilts 😃. This one was in the small quilt category - it was a lap size.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOV1NPKVEJ6KTBQqB9w7BnOTUNWY9cPG_P7Gy8paca2QHjyBkdGm4Q_rVStAi-A-qRxPsp6T9uq_7gdC37oya44TMvRKtBcikNrghRiGSmpyrnWVhwjC-5P9WGiMUhjNk2cTBWUAuYR_EK/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOV1NPKVEJ6KTBQqB9w7BnOTUNWY9cPG_P7Gy8paca2QHjyBkdGm4Q_rVStAi-A-qRxPsp6T9uq_7gdC37oya44TMvRKtBcikNrghRiGSmpyrnWVhwjC-5P9WGiMUhjNk2cTBWUAuYR_EK/s640/007.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And this one grew on me the more I looked at it. I liked the colour and hue transitions.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

I have been doing a bit of sewing this weekend but I'll save it for another post. Hope you enjoyed my quilt show tour. I hope you have time to check out what everyone else did on Friday for <a href="http://www.sugarlane-designs.com/2017/10/busy-ness-and-fnsi-sign-ups.html" target="_blank">Friday Night Sew In</a>. Thanks to Wendy for being a great host. 😍</div>

I am really late posting for FNWF. Arghh! Life seems to be so busy all the time now. Is the world spinning faster? Am I out of control? Or maybe just lazier?<br />
<br />
On Friday night I laid out two En Provence blocks to sew together. You may remember from my last post that I have four left to sew. This is as far as I got.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhmQE8loPlAg-L3ItdnTzqItA3h7bEXeiHh8bbNx4XckzaEI8qI12I5QkLWRK5rub48lNuHZjMNmWrM_xVXen78P0F813MRyPfN1p45vQecEjVjCHDungTwiUTRTM3i1RQFYMXH9nPt_n3/s1600/IMG_2185%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhmQE8loPlAg-L3ItdnTzqItA3h7bEXeiHh8bbNx4XckzaEI8qI12I5QkLWRK5rub48lNuHZjMNmWrM_xVXen78P0F813MRyPfN1p45vQecEjVjCHDungTwiUTRTM3i1RQFYMXH9nPt_n3/s400/IMG_2185%255B1%255D.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The sub-blocks for the first block are sewn into rows, but the rows aren't sewn together. The second block isn't even started. I kept thinking I would at least get the rows sewn sometime this week, but it isn't going to happen.<br />
<br />
It was Thanksgiving weekend in Canada last weekend. I had to attend one turkey dinner and host a second one. Both were delicious! Lots of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, yams, Brussels sprouts, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, whipped cream and other miscellaneous offerings such as broccoli salad, kale salad, green bean salad, and delicious appies. Today is my hubby's birthday as well as a good friend's. We are going out for dinner and then to a documentary about the <a href="http://www.thehip.com/" target="_blank">Tragically Hip</a>, a legendary (at least in Canada) Canadian rock and roll band, which is one of my hubby's favourites.<br />
<br />
On a fun note, I have another "what is it" photo for you.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJRkcJuyMqdqOH8Xv_UxhkQgEn-eUZZrVV65Oke96tJho7_vUR0j9vYm66FI52qYv-kLRPVIcm9Ddblm5jYQzya-AHrDFaExRmZVQQ38K7bLXc0l7TevfE7PDUH8wD6pMPyk8y1omYf8R0/s1600/IMG_2183%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJRkcJuyMqdqOH8Xv_UxhkQgEn-eUZZrVV65Oke96tJho7_vUR0j9vYm66FI52qYv-kLRPVIcm9Ddblm5jYQzya-AHrDFaExRmZVQQ38K7bLXc0l7TevfE7PDUH8wD6pMPyk8y1omYf8R0/s400/IMG_2183%255B1%255D.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This one should be easier to guess. The teaspoon is there for determining size.<br />
<br />
I hope you will stop by Cheryll's blog to see what everyone else got up to for <a href="https://stitchingcubbyhole.blogspot.ca/2017/10/its-time.html" target="_blank">Friday Night With Friends</a>. I haven't had a chance to check them all out yet myself!<span id="goog_234868211"></span><span id="goog_234868212"></span><br />

Our local quilt store hosts two big quilt retreats a year in the Village of <a href="http://www.hainesjunctionyukon.com/#" target="_blank"><span style="background-color: white;">Haines </span>Junction</a>, about three hours from my town. Last weekend was the fall one and, yes, I attended. <span style="font-size: large;">😃 </span>The retreat runs Thursday through Sunday, so there is lots of sewing time. As well there is tons of good food. Jonathan, our cook, comes 1,400 km just to cater for us. And a group of us put on a <span style="background-color: white;">pre-d</span>inner cocktail hour with good cheeses and other delicacies, that he loves to attend as well. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But I guess I should tell you about the sewing... I made my September swap hexies for Jacqui and got them into the mail on Friday. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When I was gathering up my pin cushions for the parade a few weeks ago I found yellow pieces that I had cut to make a block. So I put them together. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i> </i>I had made the orange block last year sometime. Eventually I want to make more of these blocks and put them into a quilt. But they are pretty complex - one block takes about four or five hours to make, what with finding the scraps and cutting the pieces etc. So this is a project for later. This block was designed by <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/all-projects/octagonal-orb-blocks" target="_blank">Elizabeth Hartman</a> and can be found by clicking on the link.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have been wanting to make myself a new tote bag and really love the shape of a bag I made last year. My blue scrap bin is overflowing, so I decided to make this a blue scrappy bag and I made a larger size. I still have to find grommets that will match with it to put the handles through. So right now it just looks like a lump.</div>

I had an extremely stressful week last week. Monday and Tuesday were long days taken up with back to back meetings at work that were not fun. Then I had a ton of work to do the rest of the week and hubby was away from Wednesday on. Although I like having time to myself, I was too tired to do anything constructive with it and my diet deteriorated rapidly as I didn't have to cook for him. So I was ready for some fun this weekend! <br />
<br />
On Saturday a group of us got together to do some talking and scarf dyeing and a little bit of sewing. It was supposed to be a lot of sewing but the talking took over <span style="font-size: large;">😂.</span> I took a few pics of the scarf dyeing in process. This is the same method we learned about in Saskatchewan in the spring. You can read about the process <a href="https://cariboucrossingchronicles.blogspot.ca/2017/06/i-am-finally-getting-around-to-writing.html" target="_blank">here</a><br />

I had my usual tired Friday - I think that is going to be my new name for it - like thirsty Thursday, then there is tired Friday. Not that I hit the bar or the put on Thursday! <span style="font-size: large;">😇</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
But even though it was a tired night I managed to work a bit on a hand work project. DD # 2 is coming for a visit in November and I realized that there are two projects that I want to finish before she arrives - not that they are gifts for her, but just so I can show them off to her. She is my biggest critic of the fact that I don't finish things. Well I do, but she is sceptical about the number of projects I finish compared to the number I start. Probably correctly. <br />
<br />
Anyway I can't show this project because then she'll know as she does read my blog. But I took a little sneaky picture. Tee hee...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzjh7ymLOevUpeuHWHtEi547NnbVN97kbNXOZdc5FWBc1MZerBDqcdwNEniOpSRUEkUKMtYLK9FpMoe1iPrAFKIekTLc6Hb0zwoXQEtKz5EHuEdwKRKFITf_usDqZ9kfL5tKUZN6XY84Wn/s1600/020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzjh7ymLOevUpeuHWHtEi547NnbVN97kbNXOZdc5FWBc1MZerBDqcdwNEniOpSRUEkUKMtYLK9FpMoe1iPrAFKIekTLc6Hb0zwoXQEtKz5EHuEdwKRKFITf_usDqZ9kfL5tKUZN6XY84Wn/s400/020.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And then today I managed to finish sewing the four patch purple squares for En Provence.</div>

A lot of you bravely guessed what it is, and lots of you were close or spot on.... it is a milk crate full of potatoes that were in a cold room in my friend's basement, for who knows how long, trying their darnedest to grow. It was hard to pick an "ugly" pincushion, because really I like them all and they all have a little fond memory of some kind for me. But this one got the honor of being the ugly duckling. My friend Nancy gave me this pincushion. She also gave me my little chair pincushion that is made out of a tin can. So you can see the style of pincushion she likes, even though she doesn't really sew much and doesn't have a pincushion collection of her own. <br />
<br />
The reason I don't like this one as much is because it is so small, and I don't really have a spot to put it where it would be useful. So it is being useful today, as my ugly pincushion!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Today I am linking up with <a href="http://mysismademe.blogspot.ca/2017/09/perfectly-pleasing-pincushion-parade_1.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed:+MySisterMadeMeDoIt+(My+Sister+Made+Me+do+it.......)" target="_blank">My Sister Made Me Do It</a> to show off the rest of my pin cushions. Last year I posted quite a few of my pin cushions for the parade You can see them <a href="http://cariboucrossingchronicles.blogspot.ca/2016/09/my-pincushion-parade.html" target="_blank">here</a>. But I realized I missed a few, and maybe I've acquired a couple of new ones since last year. <span style="font-size: large;">😉</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
I bought this beautiful swan from someone online. She had acquired a lot of old china pieces like this and had decided to make them into pincushions and sell them to raise money for charity I think I paid $10 for this though, so I'm not sure how much she would have raised. Unfortunately I can't remember who she was. The pin cushion is very elegant and sits on the windowsill watching out for wandering animals in the yard. <br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-iIQYy3mcgeS_13r7258bQAfOEet__e2icJ-gIR-iTzbWWMRl8thc8wJjmD2ENyfFMw0EpdwqOduLtofaqjYF_bFZVfYLnG9WKSHDeK29ptLwxo2ZljVIj6Qy5elza5hd3AH0YZ5ABln-/s1600/029.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-iIQYy3mcgeS_13r7258bQAfOEet__e2icJ-gIR-iTzbWWMRl8thc8wJjmD2ENyfFMw0EpdwqOduLtofaqjYF_bFZVfYLnG9WKSHDeK29ptLwxo2ZljVIj6Qy5elza5hd3AH0YZ5ABln-/s400/029.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is another one that I acquired and I can't remember who from. I think it was in a swap or a giveaway. Isn't that terrible - that I can't remember, I mean. This one is felted wool and I like it quite a bit except that it is only about an inch thick. I have it hung on my cork board and it does get the odd pin or needle stuck in it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I got this one last year at retreat. A little fairy came through in the night and lift it on my table. I made the decorative pins using buttons and tiny glass headed pins. They aren't really practical for using but they are cute.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This last one was made for me by Lynn from Ontario. It is pretty but very shallow so it is a decorative rather than useful pincushion.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And here are all of my pincushions out on parade.</div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
Except that there is one more.... The ugly pincushion. He gets a post all on his own....<span style="font-size: large;">😍</span><br />

I said I was going to make a new pincushion for this parade. And I got an idea in my head and even though I didn't necessarily want to make it, it wouldn't go away. So I made the pin cushion yesterday. I hope this pincushion is not offensive to anyone. I am trying to think of the right way to describe it and all I can think of is commemorative, but maybe memorial would be a better word. <br />

<br />
I have no idea why I was so fixated on making a pin cushion to remember what has been going on in Texas the last few weeks. I have no connection to Texas, other than my friendships with Irene and Ida. My brother and sister-in-law lived in Dallas for about five years before they moved to Seattle. And I drove through Texas once, back in 1975. I was on my way to a year of travel in Central and South America with two companions. We were going to cross into Mexico at Brownsville, Texas but one of my friends fell in a big pit in the middle of the night and broke his leg. He had to fly home to Canada. My other friend and I decided that we wouldn't take our car into Mexico and we drove on to Phoenix where we left it at a friend's house. So I probably spent two days in Texas and the time was spent travelling. Hardly an experience that created huge bonds. <br />
<br />
But hey I needed to make this pincushion and here it is in the parade. It isn't too beautiful, but it is good and sturdy. Stuffed with fibrefill but I put a little pouch of lead shot in the bottom of it so it is sold and stands up the way it is supposed to. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifH8GKKWshNuCAbvzh52b7py-2kbrqvAOacDmbBcmNk_9HDshiDzBnFM5OYmH6_pB7zZPC8tN3S-6LfgHGAoINaPE28JERq17XeEtZrk00fXfF9wqvTTZOY20dt_WA-tD1YbGjN8CR97Fq/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifH8GKKWshNuCAbvzh52b7py-2kbrqvAOacDmbBcmNk_9HDshiDzBnFM5OYmH6_pB7zZPC8tN3S-6LfgHGAoINaPE28JERq17XeEtZrk00fXfF9wqvTTZOY20dt_WA-tD1YbGjN8CR97Fq/s400/006.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm linking this up with the Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade at <a href="http://mysismademe.blogspot.ca/2017/09/perfectly-pleasing-pincushion-parade_1.html" target="_blank">My Sister Made Me Do It</a>.<br />
<br />
And I'm off to see the parade of pin cushions!<br />

I hope everyone had a fun filled FNWF. We did here! I was terrible at taking pictures and the ones I did take aren't flattering so I am not going to post them. But I really did sew with some in person friends as well as all my cyber buddies. Lori was working on a UFO that she figured was about 17 years old. Marg had made a large wall hanging of a rearing stallion using the fusible web method and she was busy stitching around the edges. Linda started a new quilt and got four blocks done. And Connie, who is a bit of a new quilter, made a set of four placemats with matching coasters.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
On Friday night I finished stitching down the binding on my postage stamp quilt and sewed on the label.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5mmHe3eb21GtdK9Abd3nUz7Pt3aY2AT2Zon_TeLDiFhRuX4csi79VMQ3dCXwqmwZJe1NV30drcXmLOitvm5KkaY3peUSJdIgKi4hZd6ZX0Yo0I68fAEtqIJzevwopG4SnONVx3hIVw8NY/s1600/015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5mmHe3eb21GtdK9Abd3nUz7Pt3aY2AT2Zon_TeLDiFhRuX4csi79VMQ3dCXwqmwZJe1NV30drcXmLOitvm5KkaY3peUSJdIgKi4hZd6ZX0Yo0I68fAEtqIJzevwopG4SnONVx3hIVw8NY/s320/015.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm keeping the details of this quilt for a full post sometime so you're only getting a peek. 😊</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And then I spent the rest of the weekend working on En Provence. First I cut and sewed 169 of these two patch purple blocks to make a total of 336 of them altogether.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB871xe8VpqHkcqcXWW_b-o3bjgjlP-qI4Joni2_SZZDJXtZHSwwlJYXcaWgsZ0yzA25cZait2z4_XiMdBlfoklTBsgdUB0P89F7Cd8kmgIx1C_SawYSsB4-rRSvIPoJbBtfKHsM8SeWl3/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB871xe8VpqHkcqcXWW_b-o3bjgjlP-qI4Joni2_SZZDJXtZHSwwlJYXcaWgsZ0yzA25cZait2z4_XiMdBlfoklTBsgdUB0P89F7Cd8kmgIx1C_SawYSsB4-rRSvIPoJbBtfKHsM8SeWl3/s400/013.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And then I turned about half of them into 4 patch blocks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsO6-cozFWGpzwbktoUaIp5252jeV0hOU4T3Frpag1aQrH7IFLa4AW0tiAqaHA6s6lQzw9uE2GY7RxnoJVGBhKBNnj8kG9Zu5pk8YgoGuyk0eapZNNiRC1f1-BEiFxhQTE7LA39GIXTvNO/s1600/016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsO6-cozFWGpzwbktoUaIp5252jeV0hOU4T3Frpag1aQrH7IFLa4AW0tiAqaHA6s6lQzw9uE2GY7RxnoJVGBhKBNnj8kG9Zu5pk8YgoGuyk0eapZNNiRC1f1-BEiFxhQTE7LA39GIXTvNO/s400/016.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
But then I had to say "enough" because I wanted to at least make one more block. Four of the sixteen done! But I still have to make a whole lot of the joining strips and then there is the border to put together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBogyq7kKlOl9kmlLJ53GyimdxmE_A3XVIE5qsShk1paqu404nsLwBUBanYRqW-oQCnTpuIAqItC-Pza09z0lcGN9mD90pAOteHZ5KbrjR9SAwEG8RwLUVHDDGVpShBts7djz2BrF18Om7/s1600/017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBogyq7kKlOl9kmlLJ53GyimdxmE_A3XVIE5qsShk1paqu404nsLwBUBanYRqW-oQCnTpuIAqItC-Pza09z0lcGN9mD90pAOteHZ5KbrjR9SAwEG8RwLUVHDDGVpShBts7djz2BrF18Om7/s400/017.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And there you have my weekend's worth of sewing. It seems like so little in retrospect. 😞</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is a little quiz for you. Can anyone guess what this is?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgLGcQ4cOLQ5FEH2JEykH6fSZ2Dr1U7eONDyAIugTw3wmayRpf03Li81XYYOmizFGBP9xrFkkGldpobs55aoOxOUb5oNZYVC345doGU-s3paPgQFpDqGjLmLwTaY4Z9FBN8_SfsNHt6dzj/s1600/018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgLGcQ4cOLQ5FEH2JEykH6fSZ2Dr1U7eONDyAIugTw3wmayRpf03Li81XYYOmizFGBP9xrFkkGldpobs55aoOxOUb5oNZYVC345doGU-s3paPgQFpDqGjLmLwTaY4Z9FBN8_SfsNHt6dzj/s400/018.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>

In case you have been wondering.... I am still around... We have had such a busy summer with visitors for about two months straight and lots of outdoor time. My quilting has suffered. But September is coming, along with winter. We have cool temperatures and the leaves are turning. And quilting is ramping up. <a href="https://stitchingcubbyhole.blogspot.ca/2017/08/fnwf_30.html" target="_blank">Friday Night With Friends</a> is on this Friday and I have a quilting weekend with in-person friends Friday through Sunday as well. Then our big fall four day retreat happens at the end of September. <br />
<br />
And I will be joining up with Ida and Irene's Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade again at <a href="http://mysismademe.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">My Sister Made Me Do It</a>. It starts on September 4th, so get your pincushions ready to strut their stuff! I have threatened to make a new pincushion for this year's parade and I even have my idea formulated! <br />
<br />
I have managed to do a little bit of stitching over the summer - for instance keeping up with my sewing obligations for the Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap. Here are the hexies I made for Gail, my August swap partner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTIDn7pBFScvpKt4MZmAmDxCcOUvp3CwpYuXhQC-SuldwKm_KedYMDR_qhiNN4yFc_FG2bqUQla_LwCJTuKTp8wnvWPWxtvC6hjv-BGhsyEXfX35H1bLeUpNR5WIq4MBJoQzQxCmN4BoT_/s1600/024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTIDn7pBFScvpKt4MZmAmDxCcOUvp3CwpYuXhQC-SuldwKm_KedYMDR_qhiNN4yFc_FG2bqUQla_LwCJTuKTp8wnvWPWxtvC6hjv-BGhsyEXfX35H1bLeUpNR5WIq4MBJoQzQxCmN4BoT_/s320/024.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And I finally blocked and hemmed the woven rag placemats that I made in a weaving course last fall.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I passed my 10 year blogging anniversary in June and I have been meaning to do a giveaway to celebrate. So stay tuned....<br />
<br />
I hope you will join in some of the upcoming fun with Irene and Ida for the Pincushion Parade and with Cheryl for Friday Night with Friends.<br />

I did not get anything done on Friday for Friday Night with Friends. Friday nights after a week of work are hard, but I can usually rally myself to at least make a hexie flower. But not last Friday. I was tiiiirerd and I made dinner and went to bed. But I did get a few things done earlier in the week. <br />
<br />
A couple of hexie flowers for my July swap partner - Jane in the UK. These were off to her in the mail on July 31st - squeaking under the wire!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqYB79fIpy0KueXxbLLrlMHTYWBFaMhsUf19jwmWiCDA7t1hr6rD0DwT0TymZKsooNLa6Tg8QrJSDLmQhuoZSi-lkwzpa21LFVAVx7Tf8gpBnENx9A0mIfWjipdxzDNhXZtdXn1s0hS6w9/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqYB79fIpy0KueXxbLLrlMHTYWBFaMhsUf19jwmWiCDA7t1hr6rD0DwT0TymZKsooNLa6Tg8QrJSDLmQhuoZSi-lkwzpa21LFVAVx7Tf8gpBnENx9A0mIfWjipdxzDNhXZtdXn1s0hS6w9/s400/001.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And another hexie flower for my Grandmother's Flower Garden. I was really obsessed with using the six pieces that make up the inner petals of the flower. It turned out a bit odd looking but at least I have that obsession out of my brain now!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This weekend DD # 3 came out so I could help her sew. She signed up to make a block for a baby quilt for a friend who is having a baby. She has a sewing machine and says she wants to learn to sew, but pinning her down to actually do some sewing is often difficult. And this block was to be made using fusible applique to make a picture - definitely not my favourite type of quilting. But she got it done with her own design and a lot of instruction from me. And it turned out quite cute!</div>

We have had what for us is really hot weather for about a week now. We have had lots of company with my granddaughter and her friend staying here for three nights of the week while they take their Bronze Medallion course, our friends from Nelson, B.C. visiting and of course DD # 3. We have been enjoying getting out in the boat, splashing in the water and soaking up the sun!</div>

And today I had a lovely surprise at the post office. Quite a while ago I won a book from Raewyn at <a href="http://stitchingfarmgirl.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">Stitching Farm Girl</a>. But it took her a while to get it in the mail and I had temporarily forgotten that it was coming. But there in the mail today was a parcel pour moi!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0I4tGkKpUC0G4cNR8UDNYI8Tn9KBIOkefHCAU-v-190h6maBHin1r4UXPoZhrpCUwEIAnaz3uOhtK9CRSRk_f4tlhyphenhyphenroEtefXp3qMp9b_LBjBon4UGeUS3S-iyOncz0W-A2GURmKTxxYE/s1600/034.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0I4tGkKpUC0G4cNR8UDNYI8Tn9KBIOkefHCAU-v-190h6maBHin1r4UXPoZhrpCUwEIAnaz3uOhtK9CRSRk_f4tlhyphenhyphenroEtefXp3qMp9b_LBjBon4UGeUS3S-iyOncz0W-A2GURmKTxxYE/s400/034.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Along with the book Raewyn sent a lovely hand towel with an appliqued strip of Kowhai - a New Zealand flower. The bird on the card is a fantail and the same bird appears on the pen. Chocolate with plum and almond in it - yum! And of course a quilting themed book for me to read. This was such a fantastic parcel to receive. Thank-you so much Raewyn!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That's all for today. I will be sure to check on at <a href="https://stitchingcubbyhole.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank">Cheryl's blog</a> to see what everyone else got up to for Friday Night with Friends.</div>

I managed to squeak in on sign-ups for <a href="http://www.sugarlane-designs.com/2017/07/dry-july-fnsi-sign-ups-open-now.html" target="_blank">Friday Night Sew In</a> for July. And I actually managed to sew a little bit too! I have a third block done for En Provence. Not the side panels, just the block.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The reason I just made it to FNSI signups is because we were away on a trip. We went to <a href="http://www.discoveratlin.com/" target="_blank">Atlin, British Columbia</a>. While we were there we attended a <a href="http://www.atlinfestival.ca/" target="_blank">music festival</a>, where we listened to lots of great Canadian performers. My favourites were a "girl group" called <a href="http://sweetalibi.com/" target="_blank">Sweet Alibi</a> and our own local <a href="https://www.declanodonovan.com/" target="_blank">Declan O'Donovan</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then we went off on a boat tour of Atlin Lake. We examined turn of the century cabin remains with beautiful gold and silver enhanced wallpaper...</div>

Today was definitely a boat day and I didn`t even get to go in one! In Whitehorse there is a yearly boating race - the <a href="https://www.yukonriverquest.com/" target="_blank">Yukon River Quest</a> - 444 miles on the Yukon River. I haven`t ever done the race and probably never will. <br />
<br />
But my hubby did the precursor to this race. It was called Dyea to Dawson, and involved following the route of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klondike_Gold_Rush" target="_blank">Klondike gold rush</a> from Skagway, Alaska to Dawson City, Yukon. The first part involved climbing over the mountains, the second part boating through the lake system, past Carcross to the Yukon River then on to Dawson. They only ran the Dyea to Dawson race for two years. I think logistics were pretty intense, crossing the border between the U.S. and Canada and getting boats to the place where the water part of the trip started - <a href="https://www.tripadvisor.ca/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g60877-d104383-i101455070-White_Pass_Yukon_Route_Railway-Skagway_Alaska.html" target="_blank">Bennett Station</a>. But the River Quest has been going on since 1999. <br />
<br />
The start of the race was today and I went down to watch it on my lunch hour. I know a couple of people who are racing - my God son, Wesley, and an old neighbour, Noreen. They are both in voyageur canoes. But with 95 teams in a mass start I didn`t see either of them but I did see Wes`canoe go by. Here are a couple of photos. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCIagMy9BxXYSaGlQaG0DPF7o2FTQOMNCegep87KLjAM32wjbdaf4HTcatK2l9JgXOi375eZW2eXI0QysQ2HTjt0tKx5xuA_aiwxOzZECnZvSYoRNUUXQF4M0bpUim4Nop8_hAU9drWdGZ/s1600/027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCIagMy9BxXYSaGlQaG0DPF7o2FTQOMNCegep87KLjAM32wjbdaf4HTcatK2l9JgXOi375eZW2eXI0QysQ2HTjt0tKx5xuA_aiwxOzZECnZvSYoRNUUXQF4M0bpUim4Nop8_hAU9drWdGZ/s640/027.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Running to get the boats in the water when the gun goes off.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And they are off!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
There were people lining both sides of the river watching the boats take off. Lots of fun. There is a tracker on the website too, so I can keep track of how my friends are doing. :)<br />
<br />
After this excitement I wandered over to an exhibition that is happening a little further down the riverbank. There, people are building boats.<br />

This one will be a dugout canoe.<br />
<br />
I have been going by this exhibit every few days watching the progress. Very fascinating!<br />
<br />
That`s all for today. The only sewing happening was on that caribou skin. :)<br />

I am finally getting around to writing a little more about my trip to the <a href="http://saskstitches.ca/" target="_blank">Saskatchewan Stitches Conference</a>. The event took place at St. Peter's Abbey/college/press/farm. This is an active place! It is the oldest Benedictine monastery in Canada, established in 1903. There are only 15 monks here and the average age is 72. But they still manage to keep the place up and get lots done. I only saw two of the monks during the time I was there. Father Demetrius takes care of the guest wing and the Abbott came around occasionally. Yes there is a college there in the winter months - we got to stay in the dorms/guest wing. I had a tour of the main building and walked around a bit, but I would have liked to have learned more about the farming. We did have delicious asparagus from their garden at several meals. And take a gander at the root cellar in one of my photos below. this was about 1/4 of it. The press puts out a newspaper called "The Prairie Messenger" but apparently they are going to discontinue it next year. <br />

<br />
A very interesting place! There are lots more pictures and info available on their <a href="http://stpetersabbey.ca/wp/" target="_blank">website.</a><br />
<br />
One of the classes I took was called Eco Dyeing. We were dying silk scarves using vinegar and leaves. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCuQl4HbL05IIQfUP83AorSw3RML7lo1pqlgR9c85Mug2zbdLmysu-F-Mp3ACvP0O-46hGO1WrAOA1cYsB8ncjT_nDWhvEvq6sEbOz4EpQGCwbDymE4Ux0lCCt8NIEE_9aEaSr8qv2nHDE/s1600/151.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCuQl4HbL05IIQfUP83AorSw3RML7lo1pqlgR9c85Mug2zbdLmysu-F-Mp3ACvP0O-46hGO1WrAOA1cYsB8ncjT_nDWhvEvq6sEbOz4EpQGCwbDymE4Ux0lCCt8NIEE_9aEaSr8qv2nHDE/s320/151.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
First the leaves had to be soaked in vinegar water. The scarves had been washed, dried and ironed and they had to be soaked as well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCg-giWzaGSxebrmk1JGwdIV1cXrvOAedzhzcb-UQRkt2g5KvV0IhXIru938XOQX2fJlVqh1Edh_py-Z3cFuLs-oIUzWf4l93as2_FHGqeLNOVLRjHgkbsCKaH8BY0DObilFajGTNd3c8w/s1600/148.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCg-giWzaGSxebrmk1JGwdIV1cXrvOAedzhzcb-UQRkt2g5KvV0IhXIru938XOQX2fJlVqh1Edh_py-Z3cFuLs-oIUzWf4l93as2_FHGqeLNOVLRjHgkbsCKaH8BY0DObilFajGTNd3c8w/s320/148.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then the leaves get laid out on half of the scarf, in what ever way that is pleasing to you. However, these scarves turn out the way they turn out, so one can take all the risks they want and may not achieve the results they think they will. :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZLRM7RdiOALr4Bv8aKb_jWMsnha9YRAo24yGytdlTw8n1OL0QhyphenhyphenqdJ8ylVYxJllX3PTFXtXApJvLlaDuBGogc8tHrL58GDHmnpk9bh_Mg8lhM5XtUjSkCg-GExDbfZj_ikd6TRV5EoGtP/s1600/154.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZLRM7RdiOALr4Bv8aKb_jWMsnha9YRAo24yGytdlTw8n1OL0QhyphenhyphenqdJ8ylVYxJllX3PTFXtXApJvLlaDuBGogc8tHrL58GDHmnpk9bh_Mg8lhM5XtUjSkCg-GExDbfZj_ikd6TRV5EoGtP/s320/154.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The scarf is folded in two so that the leaves are encased between layers of scarf. Then the scarf is tightly rolled on a stick or a copper pipe and tied in place with string or cord.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgViYROmTR4Jd0IrhdkSSSRuzxeBoXSJrmh-wja_0n01nHnpXB0g6tbTg6uZi85yZnvYIP-D8-YHPF9FiIEzKdt6wEheMq6dESUsJe6N7HLORcRq7gLyzocoBsDndgvzXWZd_A_tMagoEiZ/s1600/161.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgViYROmTR4Jd0IrhdkSSSRuzxeBoXSJrmh-wja_0n01nHnpXB0g6tbTg6uZi85yZnvYIP-D8-YHPF9FiIEzKdt6wEheMq6dESUsJe6N7HLORcRq7gLyzocoBsDndgvzXWZd_A_tMagoEiZ/s320/161.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here are our scarves, ready to go in the pot, where they will boil for three hours in vinegar water. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikQV8_8W_K6y0Naj9widvNSY7nWhDy6yqNjxcZ6v6X0Y6XJJ4G9tNO8NBNyr7VOR7gr9fmL7AQDYsIrnsYolnjxX-v1gRmeItUtseps7cgXgLW5Iw7oloqJbmcWPgAuWVQL255W6L9XOO-/s1600/167.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikQV8_8W_K6y0Naj9widvNSY7nWhDy6yqNjxcZ6v6X0Y6XJJ4G9tNO8NBNyr7VOR7gr9fmL7AQDYsIrnsYolnjxX-v1gRmeItUtseps7cgXgLW5Iw7oloqJbmcWPgAuWVQL255W6L9XOO-/s320/167.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Here are the scarves, all cooked up. The pot has to be aluminium.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio0Jrnt1_e9b60oNHjowhw00tIxBWj6i7YLb2zjPSabsf70RRbvy_WZybPnzkviR7gFudR9MrsuYGDguyNrBKvoVLfI0M_vGbtBr_0uLPPo_DnBMLP0kBFJwb5DkZ5q9x-ZLcYOnbBquty/s1600/169.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio0Jrnt1_e9b60oNHjowhw00tIxBWj6i7YLb2zjPSabsf70RRbvy_WZybPnzkviR7gFudR9MrsuYGDguyNrBKvoVLfI0M_vGbtBr_0uLPPo_DnBMLP0kBFJwb5DkZ5q9x-ZLcYOnbBquty/s320/169.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
We each had a string with a certain number of knots in it so we would be able to tell the scarves apart.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw5Kr2C6Cxz0xLLY4mNdWsDF8zRZpkhRu5B0e5B-y6J5T-bdw3NbjRaVjgmIKQT11DIUTwMVTTrY7kLHwXNL8dO9Xf2n6GyCmQFiibsh5IUzZZLqHZKfkl-IQsA5KupodY3vnQqJTf28SA/s1600/173.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw5Kr2C6Cxz0xLLY4mNdWsDF8zRZpkhRu5B0e5B-y6J5T-bdw3NbjRaVjgmIKQT11DIUTwMVTTrY7kLHwXNL8dO9Xf2n6GyCmQFiibsh5IUzZZLqHZKfkl-IQsA5KupodY3vnQqJTf28SA/s320/173.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And time for the big reveal!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSz2WCYhZ1bMmycrewLSzZ1h_2dh4aS5DfkpyZNKLCj6-oyxWXT-F1m9nHXNiAfQxxYmP1jvALhOvAyd2vWNEBc69JsU9-5jL0TXaVF4_VgUn0c6QIVV25wWx6CFovDa5IHHmzowKfvAkM/s1600/182.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSz2WCYhZ1bMmycrewLSzZ1h_2dh4aS5DfkpyZNKLCj6-oyxWXT-F1m9nHXNiAfQxxYmP1jvALhOvAyd2vWNEBc69JsU9-5jL0TXaVF4_VgUn0c6QIVV25wWx6CFovDa5IHHmzowKfvAkM/s400/182.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here are the results of my scarf. Some of the leaves give more colour than others. I experimented with some leaves that were "unknowns" as far as the amount of colour they would impart and I ended up with some areas with very little colour. I might redo this scarf. I need to look at it again with fresh eyes before I decide. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjufgDO7v44qJZ-aVAZd1ozvpHU9LlgXCTTz00qv1-9UsL94M7FnPu7FqDFvZnWc5EyzNrM6XvfZ97jIFkDS7H0Cu4HiRGso_ynH6uQO3NNB24A9pCB0kMD-oNFWb2Kswz_jh0gMXAH1UYR/s1600/181.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjufgDO7v44qJZ-aVAZd1ozvpHU9LlgXCTTz00qv1-9UsL94M7FnPu7FqDFvZnWc5EyzNrM6XvfZ97jIFkDS7H0Cu4HiRGso_ynH6uQO3NNB24A9pCB0kMD-oNFWb2Kswz_jh0gMXAH1UYR/s400/181.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is another person's scarf. She used a lot of oak leaves which give really dark colour. Hers was on a stick. Another person used oak leaves and a copper pipe and her oak leaves dyed light brown, rather than dark brown.<br />
<br />
This class was a lot of fun and I will definitely be trying this technique at home. I have already found a large aluminium pot and I am thinking about what leaves I can gather locally to try. Apparently raspberry leaves give good colour. Lots of raspberries here! <br />
<br />
That's all for this post, but be forewarned, I may be back with more on my classes. :)<br />

Since I got back from Saskatchewan I have had no time for sewing... until this weekend. I did sign up for and sew on Friday. I had high hopes that I would have lots of ambition, especially as I was home alone, so would have time and attention for sewing. But alas, I was too tired to tackle anything major. I did finish another hexie flower.<br />

I think I am up to 21 or 22 of the 27 I need. I have to get back on a roll with this quilt! <br />
<br />
What have I been doing instead of sewing? Well after 10 days at the Saskatchewan Stitches Conference, I had a three day drive home. Our route was a bit different than we had planned. We left on Saturday afternoon and drove to Lloydminster where we planned to overnight, but there was "no room at the inn". So we went on to Vegreville, Alberta, home of the world's largest Pysanka.<br />

<br />
We checked into one hotel but it was so filthy that we promptly checked back out. A few blocks up the road we found a lovely place to stay. The next day we continued on to Ft. St. John, B.C. Our hotel that night was connected to a casino. This is irrelevant to me as I look at all the flashing lights and wonder what the attraction is, but my travel partner had fun there. I went for a swim in the pool and a soak in the hot tub. <br />
<br />
The next day was another Walt Disney day with many animals frolicking along the road - black bears galore, sheep with babies, grizzly bears with babies, bison with babies, moose, etc.. We stayed that night in Watson Lake, B.C. in an old air force barracks with bathrooms down the hall. It was very clean and pleasnat though and other than getting a mosquito bite on my nose in the night, it was a great stay. From there it was a short (5 hour) drive home the next day. Then promptly back to work for me, and out to Fox Lake at night where my hubby was doing some work on my sister's cabin. She was also there visiting from New Brunswick. <br />
<br />
Last weekend was a family get together at the cabin.<br />

I came home on Tuesday night with a list of things to do, including unpacking, but found my husband's cousin and her friend had stopped by to visit from Powell River, B.C. So that took priority! <br />
<br />
When I finally got home this past Friday after work it was all I could do to lie on the couch and sew one hexie! <br />
<br />
Yesterday the bike relay race that takes place between Haines Junction and Haines, Alaska was cancelled due to snow. But today it is sunny and beautiful and I hear they ran the race today. Hubby is cutting our hay field and I am going to go and plant a few plants in the garden.<br />
<br />
I hope you had a productive FNSI. You can check out what everyone got up to on <a href="http://www.sugarlane-designs.com/2017/06/fnsi-sign-upswhere-oh-where-does-time-go.html" target="_blank">Wendy's blog</a>.<br />
<br />
I will be back in the near future to tell you more about Saskatchewan. What a trip that was!<br />

Well I'm here at the <a href="http://saskstitches.ca/" target="_blank">Saskatchewan Stitches Conference</a> and I have to say "WOW". I have never been to anything like this before. There is constant motion, talking, sewing, knitting, garment making action and conversation. I don't know how many people there are here but we had to set up 180 chairs for last night's fashion show. One of the instructors here is Ron Collins, who teaches clothes fitting and making. He happens to be a local boy who has made it big in the world of clothes making and is now creating patterns for Vogue. I wish I was taking his classes, but then I wish I was taking the classes from Jan Bones, who teaches lingerie and sports/lounge wear, and from Lucy Neatby, who teaches knitting and from Liz Thompson who teaches quilting techniques... oh yes I did take one class from her. It was a free motion class. I really enjoyed Liz' style of teaching which was to give a bunch of lecture type instruction and then tell us to practice away. Here are a couple of my practice pieces.<br />
<br />

The other class I have taken so far is a two day class with Dianne Jannson. She is teaching the <a href="https://www.amitie.com.au/shop/New-Products/p/Gypsy-Wife-Pattern-Booklet-by-Jen-Kingwell-x2366180.htm" target="_blank">Gypsy Wife</a> quilt by Jen Kingwell. She is well known in Australia and beyond for here bright eclectic patterns. I haven't made one before. What I have learned about her patterns so far is that you get to try many different blocks and to learn about cutting different shapes for those blocks. And that you can spend a lot of time agonizing over colours. Here are the blocks that I managed to make in two days. Yes I am very slow! They are sort of laid out the way they go in the quilt. I have a lot more blocks to do.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
Dianne is a lovely instructor. She owns a quilt store in Pritchard, British Columbia called Di-Versity Quilting Supplies. She says she has about 200 bolts of Kaffe Fassett fabric in her store right now. I wish I could go there!<br />
<br />
In addition to the daytime classes there is something going on here every evening. The other evening Jan Bones taught her Secret Bag as a free class. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
She is a lovely woman, very elegant and very kind. She designed these boxes when her kids asked her for square blocks for their juggling class. She had the pieces all cut and serged for us. What a lot of work for her with over 20 people in the class! Here is my magic box, filled with my socks. The boxes fold down flat when not in use.<br />

<br />
I tried to add a link to Jan Bones website but... I am at a monastery and her site is called Lingerie Secrets and the computer policy of the monastery won't let me open the site.... :) I think it is progressive that they have wifi available! <br />
<br />
I have to tell you about the monastery. Such an interesting place. But I'll keep that for another post, maybe later today. I have a free day today, doing laundry and phoning home and the like, and of course keeping in touch with my blogging buddies! Interestingly although the internet works fine in the building, one has to walk around the grounds to find a spot where the cell phone will work. <br />

Two days and 1784 kilometres down. The next two days will be a piece of cake. Day one we travelled from <a href="http://www.bing.com/search?PC=WCUG&FORM=WCUGDF&q=distance+carcross+to+fort+nelson&conversationid=9200C8AEEF8C46178D1CEE5EEDF3EEE1" target="_blank">Carcross to Fort Nelson, British Columbia.</a> This highway is two lane, it has some rough and windy sections, but traffic is light so it was fairly easy driving. It took us eleven hours to travel through this wooded area with beautiful lakes and several provincial parks. There was ice on the river in Tagish...<br />

The outside temperature was 14 to 17 C and the day was grey as you can see.<br />
<br />
We saw a little black bear and a porcupine within a kilometre of my house and then no animals for the next 400 kilometres. But after we passed Watson Lake it became a Disneyland of animal viewing. Ten or more black bears, a small grizzly, a deer, four or five moose, including a beautiful new calf, about five porcupines and about thirty bison, with babies (so cute), sheep and two birds that I think were juvenile Sandhill cranes.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The temperature today hovered around 25 C. This would be a very hot summer day at home and it felt pretty warm here too. I feel like I'm on holiday!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And even though I said the hexies were on hold, I managed to complete one between yesterday evening and this evening.</div>

Guess what I did for Friday Night Sew In this month.... I completed another hexie flower! The centre flower for this one was made by my friend Alberta from Georgia. Oh how I would love to meet her one day.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitE40lqGbkK5-004cwi7qthQQK3LBPcvCvAN_gmt7FxQv2dDT98DWfJK_Hd8vX2Jz6_BBDUZ5rWtxI8tbWLAuVdrJq_rCM8f5wlhwINfMrEWEgJpQpvHuB-rF9qh6LQeFdiGeSeUB_Ljeo/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitE40lqGbkK5-004cwi7qthQQK3LBPcvCvAN_gmt7FxQv2dDT98DWfJK_Hd8vX2Jz6_BBDUZ5rWtxI8tbWLAuVdrJq_rCM8f5wlhwINfMrEWEgJpQpvHuB-rF9qh6LQeFdiGeSeUB_Ljeo/s400/001.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Only nine more flowers to complete and then I can start to put the whole quilt together again. <br />
<br />
But the hexies flower quilt will be on the back burner for a few weeks. I leave tomorrow morning to go to the <a href="http://saskstitches.ca/" target="_blank">Saskatchewan Stitches Conference</a> with my friend Linda. Why are we driving 2600 km to quilt and stitch? Well we have a friend, Lori, who moved to Saskatchewan years ago. Lori went to the conference three years ago and she told Linda that the conference was a spiritual quilting experience. Linda and Lori both went last year and this year they have convinced me to come as well. <br />
<br />
I have signed up for six classes and I am sure they will all be very exciting and interesting. Right now I am exhausted from working lots of overtime in the last couple of weeks and having to get things finished up prior to going away. But I have my camera ready to take photos of our drive and the fun at the conference. The only problem is that it is at a monastery and I understand there is no internet access. But I'll figure out a way to put up a post or two about our adventures!<br />
<br />
Head on over to <a href="http://www.sugarlane-designs.com/2017/05/fnsi-sanity-sign-ups-for-may.html" target="_blank">Sugarlane Designs</a> to check out what others accomplished for Friday Night Sew In.<br />

I know it isn't mother's day everywhere in the world but it is here in North America. So happy mother's day to anyone who has been a mother, stepmother, adoptive mother, pseudo mother, or any other kind of mother. It is a tough but rewarding occupation in life!<br />
<br />
I am still having a very busy time at work and don't seem to get much done all week besides working. But the weekends are a different matter. Yesterday was my great nephew's third birthday so I whipped him up a place mat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBsXQZEhufinDnnOE0exIcKiUbi_DkE_j-dli1wyxQOp10U27rv-9tyr90OxbmKLprFOxGmRkf_jCs2OtWeWORPcqyr47iwUt7bGfFsaTeFhvhYL5A_k6gXf536xVh3CdfN8RnmPjp-jMe/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBsXQZEhufinDnnOE0exIcKiUbi_DkE_j-dli1wyxQOp10U27rv-9tyr90OxbmKLprFOxGmRkf_jCs2OtWeWORPcqyr47iwUt7bGfFsaTeFhvhYL5A_k6gXf536xVh3CdfN8RnmPjp-jMe/s640/007.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
It is just a panel that I added borders too. I think it is pretty cute. I had made my grandson a place mat using this same fabric a few years ago, so now the little guy can be just like his older cousin. <br />
<br />
I did a minimal amount of quilting on this and you can't see it really from this side. It shows up a bit on the back.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS2WFBhiptRzjhs9HoCQMFad0gXxSwfurJuL9JyJqRAHPqie6NZoEo46m-uJhPyq8Z081v_a_GLITzw3gTczryV7jd2tSjri9ck7d5NdRNkzwtgYZN7gpefuyCDy5aPiKANtNoZXmVIpNV/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS2WFBhiptRzjhs9HoCQMFad0gXxSwfurJuL9JyJqRAHPqie6NZoEo46m-uJhPyq8Z081v_a_GLITzw3gTczryV7jd2tSjri9ck7d5NdRNkzwtgYZN7gpefuyCDy5aPiKANtNoZXmVIpNV/s640/009.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I also managed to get another hexie flower finished this weekend. I have seventeen made - just ten more to go before I can start putting the whole thing together again.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEGMcdBeQzFgnmtT27KWWoLP91KrCb_RSizfFVhVs_ih9UL_Y1VKFKGe-eUDWV2Au2WBr2QQ8ubwKuSVNpY6x2kraz95SLpQmzFKgojfD0MmbosBYCz2YShvT_YmmlTHFhXbJVDXtCI0Z5/s1600/026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEGMcdBeQzFgnmtT27KWWoLP91KrCb_RSizfFVhVs_ih9UL_Y1VKFKGe-eUDWV2Au2WBr2QQ8ubwKuSVNpY6x2kraz95SLpQmzFKgojfD0MmbosBYCz2YShvT_YmmlTHFhXbJVDXtCI0Z5/s400/026.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

Spring is progressing here. The ice is almost gone from the lake and the water is starting to rise.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We have a few more wildflowers in bloom and the barest beginning of buds on the trees. The shrubby cinqe foil is the only flower I could get a photo of. The others are tiny and delicate and the wind was blowing them all about. </div>

It was quite the week last week. It started with two 6.2 magnitude earthquakes at 5:30 and 7:15 Monday morning. The epicentres were about 100 km from my town. We were really moving and shaking but no one was hurt. There were a few building issues, but nothing huge. In my house a pair of already not functioning well binoculars fell off a shelf and one of the eyepieces broke off. In the bigger picture there was an Argentinian climber trying to solo climb Mount Logan, which is the tallest mountain in Canada and the quakes caused avalanches that left her unable to go up or down. The weather wasn't conducive to a rescue right away but they managed to get in with a helicopter and get her out on Thursday. She was fine but says she won't attempt another summit of the mountain. I wonder why! :) Here's more on her story if you're interested. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/climber-rescued-mount-logan-natalia-martinez-1.4100727<br />
<br />
I had a super busy work week and had to work some overtime, but I took Friday off to attend another quilting retreat. Exciting!!<br />
<br />
Although I sewed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday I didn't get a lot accomplished. I think I must have been socializing too much. And on Sunday one of our quilters learned her son had passed away overnight which put a real damper on my day. My heart aches for her.<br />
<br />
But there were a few good things on the sewing front. I did get the straight line quilting finished on my postage stamp quilt and cut the excess batting off.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFh4SYb2mSTwPAqWvI4gmepWyBsWcdK0J7Nbtx52WNY5Gk6NhFC4ztDucB-zK8ksSJI8DtZQmBxAWPY3ppw2NjJKQBPv4ElJb7WqV-B8Ga_nkIERgE21mQ9g332kheHWFsG7fp6QeZ-rfC/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFh4SYb2mSTwPAqWvI4gmepWyBsWcdK0J7Nbtx52WNY5Gk6NhFC4ztDucB-zK8ksSJI8DtZQmBxAWPY3ppw2NjJKQBPv4ElJb7WqV-B8Ga_nkIERgE21mQ9g332kheHWFsG7fp6QeZ-rfC/s400/003.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I still have to do the binding. I'll do a post about this quilt sometime with all the details.<br />
<br />
I cut a bunch more purple 2 inch squares for En Provence - still have about 175 to go. But I made up a second block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNm7yV412BizmH808eeq22LWIl0PWJndBUTVhRxGjcIeaTx5N31LNbgdnn66I4_kTXIGbA53iLWeiTdhZHmeCFAUwnjcUK-8tOTJYs8Dqplcq3MOYeKobUnwfqY6_Ywku9YI-BiJAhSTA0/s1600/044A.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="230" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNm7yV412BizmH808eeq22LWIl0PWJndBUTVhRxGjcIeaTx5N31LNbgdnn66I4_kTXIGbA53iLWeiTdhZHmeCFAUwnjcUK-8tOTJYs8Dqplcq3MOYeKobUnwfqY6_Ywku9YI-BiJAhSTA0/s400/044A.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And I did work on one hexie flower but didn't get it finished. Pitiful output. <br />
<br />
And I won the door prize - a ruler and rotary cutter - and received a retreat gift of three fat quarters and an awl. Pretty nice haul!<br />
<br />

I hope you had a great Friday Night with Friends. I sure enjoyed quilting with my friends and seeing all the quilts they were working on. Now I am going to go and check out my on-line quilting friends at <a href="https://stitchingcubbyhole.blogspot.ca/2017/05/fnwf.html" target="_blank">Cheryl's</a> blog.<br />

I did not do any sewing during the week, this week. I was very busy at work and tired all week. But on Saturday I decided I had to do something. So I cut some more pieces for En Provence and then I put together one block, because I was so itchy to see what it is going to look like.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDs434am0fneVvxVnS5XKXi03bGF74CTW3iyWMioF2x0rScl8KIIZRCgihRgIt9DJmkNjQl9fSRqEClZ5JSt7oQjF0PIElg4ry9-fy8DfexuDj1eVm2l2tDNHmK0lEPPOPQEVebZdPF974/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDs434am0fneVvxVnS5XKXi03bGF74CTW3iyWMioF2x0rScl8KIIZRCgihRgIt9DJmkNjQl9fSRqEClZ5JSt7oQjF0PIElg4ry9-fy8DfexuDj1eVm2l2tDNHmK0lEPPOPQEVebZdPF974/s400/002.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
My verdict - this is going to be an interesting looking quilt. Most of my yellows are darker than these ones. And gee, I didn't realize how purple it is going to be. But I think once the neutral borders go on that will be toned down a lot. <br />
<br />
No hexies to show this week. I didn't work on them at all :(<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Spring is definitely coming, even though it was grey and windy today. I saw my first crocuses earlier this week. These are the very first spring flowers that we get here.</div>
<br />
