52 Week photo challenge–Red

I love red!  I put some red in almost every quilt I make.  I like to wear red.  And I love to look at red.  A few years ago I did a little red photo shoot in my town.  These photos are old but still good.

Flowers Galore!

I had a great time with my grandkids, but it was a whirlwind and I was very tired for quite a few days following.  I only took one picture… this was the day we headed out to see Papa at his worksite and they got to ride on the quad.  Always a fun event…

IMG_7968

The rodent situation continues.  Last week when the grandkids were here we discovered  three mice in a 5 gallon bucket in the sunroom.  One was dead but the other two were alive.  I can’t imagine how they got in the bucket, why they got in the bucket (it was empty and clean) and how long they had been there but I think it was a while.  We took them up the road and released them in the bush.  Grandson carried the bucket and said they were so cute and he wished he could keep them.  Confused smile  Then this week there was a drowned squirrel in one of the rain collecting barrels.  Thankfully hubby came home this weekend and dealt with it as I wasn’t going near it.

The wild flowers are coming out fast and furious now.  These are wild strawberries.

IMG_7978

And beautiful wild roses….

IMG_7984

I have some sewn flowers to show as well.  Smile  I received two sets of second round hexies from Christine in the Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap and here they are sewn on to their flowers…Pretty huh?

IMG_7986

I also made a postcard birthday greeting last weekend for a certain little girl (DGD in Nfld) and hopefully she has received it by now…

IMG_7974

And I received this lovely postcard from Brandy in the Maple Leaf postcard swap.  Ingenious how she used the wool to cover the joins in the fabric.

IMG_7982

Here it is posing with some flowers in my sun room.  (no mice in the photo)Smile with tongue out

IMG_7983

That’s all I have to show this week.  I hope to get more sewing done in the next few days though as Tuesday is a holiday from work for Canada Day. Smile

How are you doing with your rodents… er, I mean your sewing?

Friday Night Sew In Report

I managed to get some sewing in last evening while watching a movie with the grandies (I do like that word Smile).  Two flowers for my June partner in the Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap.  She asked for blues and greens.  I think these fit the bill…

What a week!!

Last week that is…  It started out on Monday night when I saw a fat mouse run down the hall in my house.  I HATE mice.  They give me the heebie jeebies and I have been known to actually scream at the sight of one.  And I am NOT a squeamish person.  I won’t give you all the details; suffice to say that it took four days, three mouse traps and three assistant mice hunters to catch the mouse.

The catalyst to solving the problem was on Wednesday night when I went out to visit my hubby at the place he is working.  I managed to lock my keys in my car.  This is an hour away from any professional service that could open my car for me and would cost probably about $200 to get them to drive out there.  And it is two hours from my home where my spare key was.

On Thursday DD # 1 kindly drove to my house to pick up my spare key and while she was there sought out the missing mouse traps (yes that mouse had dragged them off from where I had set them, but was not caught!!).  She reset one of them by the door and voila!  On Friday morning there was the mouse in the trap.  Another assistant had to come in to remove the mouse and trap for me.  Ugh!!

On the weekend we had a quilt retreat right here in my home town.  It was an international event with three ladies from my town, two women from Whitehorse and four women from Alaska attending.  And one of those ladies from Alaska is actually from Kansas.

Then on Sunday night we got word that my nephew’s child had been born.  His girlfriend, Christina, was due in September.  The baby is 10 weeks early and weighs 2 lb, 15 oz.  His name is Julien Thai Nann-Constable.  He will be in hospital for at least two months.  He is beautiful and perfect, just much too small.  His grandparents, my brother and his wife, ask for prayers from near and far for the baby, his parents and the rest of the family.

This week I have my two grandchildren visiting for the week.  We spent four hours at the swimming pool yesterday and we all slept for about ten hours last night.  Their two dogs are here as well, although my little pup is away with hubby.  We are off to take them for a walk once I say the word.  Right now the kids are making things with little elastic bands.  It is called Rainbow Loom and these two will spend hours making things.

Some photos from the retreat…

IMG_7950Dahn whipped up two baby quilts over the weekend.  Here she is enjoying the sun.

IMG_7951Louise was frustrated with the quilt. She kept sewing the triangle pieces on the wrong way.

IMG_7952Diane is from Kansas and is in Alaska visiting her sister for the summer.  She isn’t a quilter, but she is an incredible good sport.  She pressed, ripped stitches, helped pin and fold, gave advice on colours and placement and had a great time. Smile

IMG_7953

Lori plugged away quietly at her sewing.  I thought I had a photo of one pretty one she was working on, but…. no…

 IMG_7955

Linda was making an awesome colourful quilt.  She was missing a few pieces of fabric, but I was able to find what she needed in my stash.  Who me?

IMG_7954

Dianne was only able to come on Friday and Sunday, but still managed to take two quilts to their end stages.

I worked on several things.  Borders for Easy Street…

IMG_7967

Some fmq on this quilt that I started working on before I went to Australia.  Eleven blocks left to do – six in this pattern and five in stitch in the ditch on the adjoining coloured blocks…

IMG_7965

And I made this block for my June Canadians Quilt partner.  She wanted summery colours and no batiks…

A display of some of our work…

Hope you had a good week too!

Friday Night with Friends report and some other sewing

It has been grey, rainy and cold here.  Despite that the spring keeps progressing.  After the crocuses the next up flowers are the Lupine and the Jacob’s Ladder … Funny how purple reigns in the spring.

***EDIT***

My daughter pointed out that this isn’t a Lupine below.  It is a Harebell.  Another purple spring flower.  I have added the Lupine photo below it.

There are a couple of other beauties out in the sunny spots. These lovely Cut-leaf Fleabane are pink when still a bud but turn white as they open…

IMG_7924

These ones, Stickseed or Blue Bur, will turn into burrs which stick to your socks, shoelaces, pants, jacket and anything else they can grab onto…

IMG_7923

For Friday Night with Friends hosted by Cheryl at Gone Stitchin' I sewed up this flower for the Canadians Quilt Bee.  Carly said that she is making a quilt of Mackintosh Roses…

IMG_7928

And then… I did some other sewing this weekend!  I made this postcard for the Canadian Quilt Talk Canada Day postcard exchange.  The theme is the maple leaf of course…

IMG_7929

And I finished up this doggie pad that I started about two months ago at the retreat.  What held me up?  Well after I cut the rounded corners I realized I would have to use a bias binding.  And I had forgotten that it is really easy to make bias binding, so I procrastinated.  This pad is just to cover the flimsy seat cover that hubby bought so the dog’s claws don’t rip it.

IMG_7944

Last evening the sun came out.  We went out for a picnic supper with our friends and a paddle in the creek.  One canoe and four people means that the “girls” got to sit in their camp chairs in the middle of the canoe while the “boys” paddled.  It felt like I was the Queen of Sheba being shepherded down the Nile.  I’m sure it looked hilarious.  And the dogs… well they ran and swam.

No dogs were harmed in the making of these photos.

52 Week Photo Challenge–Fly

It has been a while since I got  to fly on one of these.

IMG_3923

FLYing in small planes was one of the things I enjoyed about my job.  One day I would like to FLY in one of these….

A busy week and some sewing :)

It was another busy week – sometimes the days seem to be so full that I don’t accomplish any of the things on my list.  Hubby is still away at work so I spent another night out there on Wednesday.  These gorgeous Fairy Lady Slippers were blooming in the yard.

IMG_7906

And the ice was still trying to leave…  Funny because it is all gone here, but I guess this lake is at a little higher elevation…

IMG_7911

It was my sister’s friend Linda’s birthday and the whole family came out for the party…  We had some FUN…. (which is the word this week for the 52 week photo challenge, so I will be linking up with Shaz at Alsha's Space).  And here are granddaughter, DD # 3 and a couple of the dogs having some FUN. Smile

IMG_7912

I did actually get some sewing done this weekend… Remember I said I had to help DD # 3 make curtains.  Well we got them done!

IMG_7916

There are two sets like this.  She got this wonderful bird fabric at the awesome store she found in Vancouver… which by the way is called Spool of Thread and is located at 649 15th Avenue.  There is a website too at spoolofthread.com.  I haven’t checked it out yet.

The curtains are backed with a pretty blue/green fabric to help keep the light out… This is how effective they will be…  Not too bad…

IMG_7917

And granddaughter had to sew too, so she made a little bag from the children’s scrap bag of fabrics, with handles of the blue/green curtain fabric…

IMG_7918

She is such a poser…

That’s all for this week, but I’m pleased with my sewing accomplishment!  I hope you had a great week too.Open-mouthed smile
